A popular classic in the Disney collection is an adventure film set around the mythical Atlantis. Despite its creative concept, the film was not met with much enthusiasm upon its release. This could be due to the timing, which affected the film’s earnings as it was released between popular Disney films such as The Emperor’s New Groove and Lilo & Stitch. However, Atlantis skillfully combines elements of science fiction and mythology to create a unique visual design, compelling characters and an original world.

In 2020, I opined that Onward was the better of the two Pixar releases that year, but Soul ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. I’m sure Forward deserved more recognition than the animation and should have been considered for Best Picture. In my opinion, the film is an exciting and imaginative masterpiece that boasts a compelling story and stunning animation. The performances of Tom Holland as Ian Lightfoot and Chris Pratt as Barley Lightfoot were particularly impressive, showing real chemistry between the brothers as they seek to meet their dead father for a day. Set in the modern world of magic, the film delivers both laughs and heart-wrenching moments. Overall, Onward is an outstanding addition to Disney’s animated collection.

Apart from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1992), Disney’s Robin Hood animated films are almost two unblemished successes in bringing the timeless tale to life. Led by Brian Bedford as Robin Hood and Peter Ustinov as Prince John, the likeable characters are energized by an all-star cast. The film’s themes of justice, loyalty and support for the downtrodden provide lasting appeal and touch people of all generations. The precise craftsmanship and intricate depiction of the animal world through anthropomorphic figures characterized by fluid and emotional movements that capture the essence of the characters is truly impressive. This artistic approach effectively transports the audience into the living world of Sherwood Forest. There is no doubt that this is the definitive version of the story.
Afternoons at Disney were an important part of my childhood and I have fond memories of them. When the adaptation of the popular cartoon Duck Tale came out on VHS, my family’s copy wore out quickly because it was watched so often. Titled Duck Tales: Treasure of the Lost Lantern, the film features all the beloved characters from the series, including the adorable Scrooge McDuck (voiced by the extraordinary Alan Young), and is simply amazing. He skillfully combines intelligence, pleasantness and emotional depth. Scrooge and his grandsons Huey, Dewey and Louie are still interesting after all these years. The heart of The Lost Lantern lies in its exciting and adventurous nature, filled with heart-warming moments that will touch audiences of all ages.
In a rapidly changing world where technological advances are changing the way we consume media, Disney’s legacy of animation remains as steadfast as ever. Hayao Miyazaki’s feature film debut is a fun heist that takes the brash and cunning crime lord of Monkey Punch and turns him into a noble thief with a heart as big as his next score. As Tasha Robinson wrote in her first review of Lupine III: Last Year:
